Mersán Abogados is pleased to announce the naming of 2 new partners: Lorena Mersán and Tomás Mersán. The firm gathers now a total of 7 partners, as of January 2021.

With the appointment of Lorena and Tomás, the firm strengthens its specialization in the practice areas of intellectual property and corporate law.

Lorena Mersán has vast experience in the area of ​​intellectual property. She manages the portfolio of national and international trademarks. She has experience in copyrights, patents and industrial models. Additionally, she handles matters of advertising and legal marketing.

She has a law degree from the National University of Asunción, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Columbia Law School (New York, USA). She is Pro-Secretary of the Board of the Paraguayan Association of Intellectual Property Agents (APAPI), Alternate Delegate for Paraguay to the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) and Secretary of the Paraguayan Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).

Tomás Mersán specializes in corporate law, with several years of experience in business matters. He has experience in practice areas such as foreign investment, M&A, antitrust, tax law and economic analysis of law. Additionally, he is developing the department of new technologies of the firm, which includes regulatory issues in relation to cryptocurrencies, blockchain, digital payments, digital signature, artificial intelligence, e-commerce and technology applied to finance (fintech).

He has a law degree and a master’s degree in business law from the Catholic University of Asunción, as well as a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Chicago (Chicago, USA). He is also a professor at the Catholic University of Asunción.
